Alfred is a stunning 1981 Volvo 242 GLT with a really great history, that has been lovingly cared for each time it was passed on to its next owner. Alfred is the namesake of his previous owner, who in his advancing years is no longer allowed to drive. Alfred has had three owners in total, all of whom knew one another and exchanged the vehicle between themselves once they became too old to drive. Alfred was purchased new in 1981 from McKevitt Volvo in Berkeley, CA (today located in San Leandro), and has spent the duration of its life in that area. Of note, each person whose hands this vehicle has passed through bought their first Volvo from the very same dealership, and each regarded Alfred as the most unique Volvo they had ever seen, and certainly ever owned.
Alfred has undergone a LIMITED suite of Auslander treatments. The interior fabric has been re-stained and re-stretched, and a number of broken and/or worn parts have been swapped out. The dashboard was removed so a new heater core and blower motor could be installed, and a mess of inoperable audio components were removed with a new Auslander audio system installed in its place. The typical host of common issues were resolved, and we have subsequently put the vehicle through the gamut of stress tests which it passed with flying colors.
Alfred’s body is immaculate. The car was repainted in homage to the vintage semi-gloss GT finish. In all, Alfred is a real catch, and despite being an automatic, is an ABSOLUTE HOOT to drive! A serious head-turner, an a GREAT driver-grade vehicle.
Alfred has been sold and is going to a Volvo fanatic on Long Island in NY. We’re certain our friends on the East Coast will be seeing this car all around town, at the shows and definitely at the meets!
